My computer had a serious virus problem. I reformatted the C: drive. Now I can't find boot disc. Used a friend's Windows 98, but I am missing drivers for monitor, modem, printer, etc... I am trying to install drivers downloaded from web (from another computer). But my system isn't recognising anything, I try to install by cd/rw. If I can get it to find internal modem, I can go online and download from web, but it can't find modem. Any suggestions? No $$ to invest, so I will have to do this myself.

Hi Cyndara- first go here and download aida32.
    http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Reviews/r847.html
This dandy program will tell you what your hardware is by make and model #. Then armed with that information, go to the manufacturer's web sites and download the drivers. If you can't find the drivers there, go to:http://www.driverguide.com
Go to the members log in and for user name type in "drivers ". For password enter "all ". Try to find your drivers there. Good luck, Clydeo22.

That is not an unusual and a VERY common problem when formating.

If it is a PCI Internal Modem it is also a common problem. With some of them once they are setup to work will not setup up again to work properly after a format.

As far as driver go ( modem, audio, video etc. ) they should be stored on a partition other than C: so that they DO NOT get wiped out with a format..

I would bet 10 to 1 that the Modem is going to be your biggest problem. If it is a PCI card then you might just have to get a new one that has all the drivers etc with it.
