Hi, I used to old version on a trial bases and at first was very happy with it until I discovered TDS-3 by DiamondCS - this is by far a more indepth Trojan scanner with the reference file updated Mon-Fri. AT did not update as frequently as this. Another advantage of TDS-3 is when you have registered it you will also benefit for a resident Trojan watch - AT was only a scanner.

TDS-3 has a lot more tools and capabilites but it is only free for 30 days after that you will need to register.

I did not find any Trojans with either but I know someone who used AT and received a clean report but when he ran TDS he found that he actually did have a few trojans.

It was not that I had any problems with AT I just found that TDS is very much ahead of AT in all respects.

    thanks Charles
Ive been looking around ,my concern were if that the company had been taken over,by who and if they were still standup
seams the same developer is still in charge,
mmm nice indication its a good and getting better program,
if the authur admits its not her/hims/ primary scanner
    ,,well he says untill now.

miniB I aggree .tds seams to be the most popular amoung the pros.. It might be just a little confusing for beginners, though its nice there is a thirty days trial..
trojan Hunter sure is nice,, wish I could afford it. maybe I'll get it as a christmas gift this year

    Thanks Charles
I was me that started a discussion in the a2 forums on same subject,, I had installed without the right/lick contect, and wanted it ,without having to reinstall the app,, all figured out now except I dont uderstand why only for folders not individual files.
o well same thing inthe end,, if the file in question is in a large folder I could copy it to a new one ,, ie cut down on scanning time little bit..

    TDS vs Trojan Hunter

Lonnie, You say TDS is so nice but then you are hoping Santa will give you Trojan Hunter. Santa can't read minds, which one do you really want? And Santa would like to see links to both.

    Trojan Hunter

Stupid question time- why doesn't Trojan Hunter prevent them from getting in in the first place? Isn't Zone Alarm supposed to stop that too? Not to mention Norton and Mcafee?

I try to look at it this way, no programs are failsafe/foolprof
its better to have a layered defense, in other words don't count on any one program to do all these things, anti virus, anti Trojans.
dialers, etc etc,, best to have tools that specialize in one area.
dont count on residents, or as others call it scan on demand, to protect you,, a full system scan is always better,
If you think something is up and your anti virus resident didn't catch it,, run a full system scan,, and get a second opinion from another company online, and perhaps an online Trojan scan

Best to set IE's security up correctly and tight,, keep it and windows up to date ,get a good av ,firewall, anti spyware, and if you download allot ask others first before installing then maybe use a Trojan scanner to.
keep them up to date,, da da da,,
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15221&highlight=layered+defense
and search here for layerd defence,, couple very interesting threads

then forget about it and try to enjoy the Internet.-;)

    Hello Shturmovik,

A firewall rarely has to stop a trojan, one exception was the blaster worm of last August.

Trojans are mostly "invited" in by the Browser.

NAV and McAffee are AV's, their weak points are trajan detection. KAV is said to be the strongest in trojan detection among the AV's.

AT's such as TrojanHunter and TDS are after the fact scanners. I may be wrong, but I don't thing they have real-time protection options.

    Hi Lonny,

*its better to have a layered defense, in other words don't count on any one program to do all these things, anti virus, anti Trojans.*

I very much agree with that.

Found System Safety Monitor a few months ago, I think up to now the ultimate "backstop ". A good description is "Application Firewall" . One fly in the ointment is that it will not run very well on 9X systems.

    Trojan Hunter

I just sprung for TH and it is indeed easy to use. Of course if you only get the free copy you don't get the 12 MB update of all the latest rules and trojans. But I like to be paid for my work so I don't mind paying others for theirs. Just seems like I do more of the latter lately.
