    Hello,
If I logon to a Windows 2000 PDC (that acts also as a workstation) with the administrator account; sometimes I get the roaming profile and other times I get the local profile (it doesnt notify me that there is a problem). All other workstations always use the roaming profile, but for some reason the server cannot decide which one to use.
    Any ideas?

Windows 2000 PDC .... with the administrator account

PDC indicates you are running a classic NT4 domain but using a 2K server for the primary domain controller. Is this the case?

A domain controller shouldn't have a local login of any sort so is this 'administrator' account a domain admin account?

Sorry, this is actually only a test server which I'm using for learning. It is on AD, "Windows 2000 Primary ". I'm not locally logging in; I'm asking it to logon as the domain admin; however it seems to load a "local" profile (without warning me) - ie one that is different than all other workstations.

Thanks. That helps. AD domains have Domain Controllers but unlike a NT4 domain, they don't use the model of a primary and a bunch of backup DCs.

    Couple of things.
    - try creating another account and make it a member of the domain admin groups and see if it behaves the same way.
    - give detail on exactly what you mean by it getting a 'local' profile rather than a roaming profile.

By that, it seems to load the profile of 'administrator' folder in Documents and Settings directory.

I wanted to avoid making a different account for that, but I suppose its the only thing I can do

What does the profile path state in Active Directory users and computers for the administrator account? It should be a network path, (it can be local to the server, but needs to be access via the network path).
