Compaq 4860 processor & board upgrade

    Hey

    Anyone know what I will need to upgrade a Compaq Presario 4860, P2 cpu to a P4 as well as a motherboard. Is it at all possible?I want to bring this puter into the 21st century if at all possible.Please relay as much info as possible.

    You’d pretty much be wasting your time trying to upgrade the old dinosaur. Pretty much everything would have to go. Might as well keep it for a spare and learn how to network or give it to little sis.

    I'd even go so far as to say it's probably not possible. At the end of the road, you'll probably have replaced so many parts that it wouldn't be considered an upgrade but a new PC.

    I just finished "upgrading" an old Pent 2 and listened to the, according to the label, "extra large 9.6 Gig" hard drive grind. I have to agee with Steve and Chiles- junk it and start fresh. Easier (and often cheaper) to rebuild than to modify, esp an OEM. JMO, YMMV
