    Need help!!!!
Have a compaq presario 1200 XL 105. It was working fine and now it will not turn on. The battery is charged and I checked the support on compaq's website. It said the laptop should boot without the battery while plugged into the a/c adapter. Well it doesn't. I followed all of the suggested steps and nothing works. I emailed them and their response was that it was a complex issue and could not be resolved through email. They suggested that I take it to an authorized repair place. NO WAY!! Had another friend do that last week for a dvd burner issue. Their solution was to reformat the hard drive to fix the burner. Not gonna take it anywhere unless it's a last resort.
Does anyone know of a possible fix???

Sorry to say that this sounds like a circuit/component failure - maybe the power circuit - maybe simply the power switch.

I feel sure that an authorised Compaq dealer would not dream of formatting your drive - this is not a software problem.

BTW do any lights appear when you try to power up?

Clearly a problem somewhere downstream of the power button - think you will have to bite the bullet and speak with the Compaq man :(
