when i boot up on Win95, I get this "HDD CONTROLLER FAILURE" in the black screen when the CD-Rom is connected. When the CD-Rom is disconnected, it will boot up to the desktop. On the desktop it shows a window that says "File EUTILS.DLL" is missing.
It does not regognize a CD-Rom in the device manager and seems to be miscofig. Tried to install a different CD-Rom and got 2 "BEEPS" on the startup and a FDD and HDD failure. Computer seems to run fine without a rom. How do I get it back in shape, I haven't dealt with Win95 in a long time. All help is very appreciated.

Put the CD rom on it's own cable, on the secondary IDE.

    Jumping in...

I'm just trying to get my old pentium I W95 set working again. I get a series of longish beeps (more than the two mentioned in the first posting). I'll try setting up the hard disk on different outputs as you suggest, though I think it is on the same output cable from the mother board as before.
I've tried with a HD W95 and with another HD W98 - same result. I've been trying it on a very up to date monitor, could the VGA output be complaining? I get no output at all on screen.
Planning to give the set to my grandson for Christmas...
    All the best
    Keith

Hi Keith. Depending on the motherboard manufacturer, the series of beeps are a code, usually describing the fault with the hardware.
More detail as to the beep sequence would help determining the problem.
As you are getting nothing on the monitor, I would suggest the first step is to replace the video card with a known working one, however, not knowing the beep details, that's simply a guess.
It could be bad/unseated ram, cpu heat, or any number of other things.
