My hard drive (4GB) is almost completely full and I have discovered that my _RESTORE is holding almost 2.5GB! How do I go about deleteing these files? Any other suggestions on where to look to find unnecessary files to remove.

    Thanks in advance!

Go to Start\Run, type in Msconfig and press Enter. Then click on Advanced, in the new window disable System Restore. Reboot. Go back and enable System Restore and reboot. You will then have a new restore point created, and all the old files deleted.
You can delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder and any folders connected to it.
    Delete Temp IE files.
    Delete cookies.
    Delete IE History

Thanks Markp62 for your reply. I ran the msconfig as you suggested but did not find the option to disable the system restore. There was a button to launch the system resore but was unsure if I should or not. My computor is a Compac 1675 laptop and have that some things are not addressed the same as desktops. Te operator's manual tells me how to launch system restore but not how to diable it. Any other suggestions how to diable it?

    Thanks again.

Is it possible the ME is like XP and the selection for controlling System restore is available by right clicking on My Computer Icon and selecting properties.

    Hi Stan!

Got to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System

Click Performance > Filesystem and move the slider for allocated diskspace to the minimum setting of 200 MB. This is in most cases enough, too old Restore Points are useless. This reduction of allocated diskspace will remove the older RPs and maintain 200 MB containing the latest RPs. In the future, when a new RP is created, the oldest will get kicked out.

If You want to clear all of them, click Trouble Shooting and tick the box at the bottom to disable SR.

Reboot, go back and untick the box to reactivate SR.

    HTH,
    Christer

Edited: BillyBobs way into "System" is just as good!

HATS OFF to all of you. Everything went well and I now have almost 2.7GB free on my hard drive. I wish I could by you all a beer!
