Just wanted to know before venturing on home networking. Intent networking two pc's with winXPpro using router with DSL
PPOA. Any issues with this protocol. Most if not all forums only mentioned PPOE. What should i need to know first ?

First you should know that PPoA is for use with ATM. So if you aren't using ATM, you probably won't be using PPoA. If you are, the ISP has an interesting operating structure. BT did at one time and may still. No idea about the ISPs in your part of the world.

For the most part, if the router is PPoA/PPoE ready and your ISP uses either, the connection should be automatic using their setup instructions.

If you need help at any point, post back and include specifics (which ISP, Modem, Router/Switch/PC Operating Systems).

It is using ATM so PPoA is correct.

If your router/switch is designed to deal with PPoA the whole process should be pretty automatic - internet connection and networking any local PCs you have.

ATM is reliable. Just not real common in many parts of the world. I'd expect it to give you good, fast DSL service.

If your PCs run NT4/2K/XP there are a couple of things you may have to do differently to make them work with each other (share files and/or printers) but all easy things to do.

 

Newt, this is where the problem lies. I am having a hard time
finding router that supports PPOA. Most if not all supports PPOE.
Any recommendaitons on PPOA supported router. My ISP do not
support router. Meaning they don't provide router configurations
walkthru. I have to go thru' vendor.
