    OS=Windows XP Pro
    Office XP

    On my wifes computer at work the menu bar is gone. I've tried all the logical ways to get it back, Tools, Customize, etc. Nothing seems to bring it back. Any ideas???

    Possibly Word is in Full Screen mode - should be a small dialogue box to restore normal view. Try Alt + C, although I can't see how you can do anything in this mode bar look :)

    Otherwise try a Repair of Word -

    Add/Remove Programs > Office (or Word if a standalone) > Change/Remove > Repair.

    The missing toolbar in Word problem can usually be fixed by searching the harddrive for and deleting all instances of a file called "normal.dot. "

    A reinstall/repair of Word won't fix that file because normal.dot isn't installed when Word is installed. It's created the first time Word is opened. When you delete it, a new one will be created the next time Word is opened.

    If it gets corrupted, all sorts of strange and not-so-wonderful things can happen, including missing tool bars and menus.

    Thier IT restored the menu bar but now her "copy and paste" functions are gone.

    I think an online AV scan is in order at this point. Housecall will locate things and RAV will locate/fix.

    After the AV scan, I'd also run Ad-aware and Spybot.

    It may well not be a virus or spyware/malware but if it is, any repair attempts are a waste of time unless the baddies are dealt with.

    If those run clean or if any issues they find are fixed, I'd do a repair of the MS office install.
