    BTW,
Just joined last night-want to say this is a great board-loved the
    quick response on first question.
Anyway-I noticed in the download for IE 6 it said it was supported
by MS for Win98, but not recommended. Can someone clarify?
I have it installed, along with Outlook, with Win98SE and it seems to work fine.
Also, I did not elect to install the Media Player. I do Video Editing, and I have found the vs. 6.1 has always worked best for
these purposes. I do not particularily like the 'cutsy' look of the newer vs.-however, I am sure I am missing a lot of features. My Questions are:
1.) Which vs. is bundled with IE 6
2.) Could someone clarify major changes between 6.1, and the current vs. in IE 6?
NOTE: I posted this in Win98 than realized it may have been more
approprite here. Sorry for the double post.

    TIA

    Milt

    Welcome to the board.

The following is from Microsoft's web site for IE6.

    http://www.microsoft.com/catalog/display.asp?subid=22&site=10829&x=41&y=3
    Overview
Internet Explorer 6 is the platform that brings a new way of browsing to the Internet. Internet Explorer 6 is a set of core technologies in Windows® XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional, and is available to users of Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows NT® Workstation 4.0, and Windows 2000 Professional operating systems. Internet Explorer 6 includes many new and enhanced features that can simplify the daily tasks that you perform, while helping you to maintain the privacy of your personal information on the Web. IE 6 provides a platform that delivers the Internet in a fresh new way with innovative browser capabilities, including media playback and automatic picture resizing for end-users; a single platform for overall simplicity for creating and deploying robust LOB applications for corporate users; and a proven technology to develop rich web-based applications quickly and easily for developers.

    Benefits
Internet Explorer 6 includes many new and enhanced features that bring a new way of browsing to the Internet. It features a new browser look and feel, as well as innovative browser capabilities, including media playback and automatic picture resizing. Internet Explorer 6 can also help to maintain the privacy of personal information on the Web and provide fault collection that can identify potential problems that need to be fixed in future Internet Explorer Service Packs.
Internet Explorer 6 is more customizable than ever before through the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK 6), so it's easier to deploy and maintain the browser. Version 6 of the IEAK adds control over new features such as the Media Bar and Auto Image Resize.
Internet Explorer 6 is also a feature-rich platform for building Web-based applications and developing informative content for users. The browser provides enhanced support for standards-based Internet technologies and improves the ease and speed with which developers can take advantage of these technologies. Improvements to the browser-programming model, such as enhanced DHTML features, further enrich the Web development platform and IE 6 is 100% standards compliant with DOM Level 1 Core & HTML and CSS1 support.

    Thanks for the Response,

No where does MS say IE6 is not recommended for Win98-I got
that off the release notes from the download section of this site.
Check it out from the link to download IE6. It says: (last line in paragraph)

    "System Requirements

Microsoft's recommended system configuration to use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 is Microsoft Windows® 2000, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), or Microsoft Windows NT® on a computer with a Pentium III processor and 128MB of RAM. Although not "recommended ", Windows 98 is also supported (Windows 95 is not). "

I don't know what to say other than I have had IE6 installed since it was first released on Win 98SE. Works great, no major issues unlike my expierence with IE5.5. I like the new security and privacy (cookie) controls. Hope this helps you.

    ezebob,
I like it too, and it seems to work fine. I don't know why WindowsBBB has this in the release notes-but then, it was in
August, and maybe back then it was deemed more appropriate for XP-Anyway, I like it also-The security slide bar IS much better.
    Thanks,

    Milt
