    Hey folks,
Can't seem to access the folder
    c:\system volume information\_restore{huge number ..... }.exe
I assume it is a file that xp has placed there for restore reasons, but the problem is that it is a trojan virus and my virus program is constantly reminding me of this.

    windows xp professional
    avg 6.0 anti-virus system

    any suggestions are appreciated.
    thanks,

    NTV

Turn off system restore. If you do this all restore points will be deleted. Reboot and then turn it back on. To turn it off, open the control panel and click on the system icon and then on the system restore tab. Put a checkmark in the box next to turn off system restore on all drives.

Oh.... I see this is your first post. Welcome to the board. :)

    Hello NTV,

In that Systems panel that Zander referenced, the System Restore tab, you can control the size of that file by using the slider. The default size is 12% of drive size, moving the slider to the left will allocate less and show you what the percentage is. XP deletes the oldest points when that size limit is hit. XP is doing that now at the 12% point.

By moving that slider, the system will delete the oldest points w/o having to shut SR down and losing the recent System Restore points.

In any case, there is a 90 day time limit for any restore point.

    Regards - Charles
