    Hi,
I have an old laptop that is just sitting around that I want to use. It is a Pentium 1, 133Mhz, 24MB RAM that has Win95 and I just want to upgrade it to 98 from 95 so I got Win98 SE (not the upgrade I was unable to find it anywhere). and I will do what it says at http://www.netpathway.com/~kramer/reinstall.html but My problem is that I want to keep on the computer all my files about 300MB and I have 2 drives C(2GB) and D(4GB) so I moved all my stuff to D I wonder if when I do "format c:" will all my stuff on D be safe even if C and D are the same Hard Driver?
    Any tips will be welcome,
    Thanks

    fastclick,

First of all, welcome to the board! If you move all your files over to the D: drive, they will be safe as long as you ONLY format the C: drive. Now if these files are actually programs, they may not completely transfer okay. Some programs may have to be reinstalled on the D: drive to work properly.

Just make sure you have the right drive when you format.

Mike's right. As long as you do your part correctly you shouldn't lose anything on drive d.

    Tip #1
If I were you and had the money, I'd see if I could find some more ram for it. At least 64 meg but it would be better yet to have 128 if the board supports it. I have a feeling it'll be painfully slow with only 24m/b. ;)

    Hi,
I only need to keep my documents none of the 300MB are programs.
I think there is room for 32MB RAM all togather... it might be hard to find such an item anyway if it gets to slow I will bring back Win95.
On the Windows 98 site it says the Min specs are 66Mhz and 16MB RAM:

It will run with 24. I just thought if it were possible it would best to get more ram. Keep thing that run at startup at a bare minimum. When booting the computer, be patient. I have a feeling it'll take a while. :) I've been wrong before though. :D
