    Hi
I've just set up a network at work, 5 pc's running XP Pro, and 1 running NT4.
All is fine apart from one of the XP machines had a problem with the network card, after removing and refitting a few times, I replaced it with a new one.
The latest network connection is 'Local Area Connection 6'
and when I set it up to use the static IP address that our DSL provider requires it says 'a network card is already set up with this IP address etc etc' I choose the option to use it anyway, but later on the same day the computer starting giving BSOD when booting :(
The only way I can get it to boot, is to boot to safe mode, uninstall the network card's driver and then rebbot normally,
once booted if I try to enable/install the driver again, it locks up totally
any ideas anyone, or shall I just reinstall windows now that I have got a working network card???

    many thanks

    spotta

If the old card is still showing up, disable it rather than deleting it.

If it isn't, get a fresh start on your network load by
    - removing the NICs from device manager
    - shutting down and removing any physical NICs, modems, etc.
    - booting up and shutting back down
    - replacing the NIC you want and starting back up.
