    Hi,
When I was using Windows 98, and looking at swf files, I used to be able to go to my temporary internet files and find the swf file stored on my computer. Then I was able to move it out of the folder and put it elsewhere and play the swf file directly from my computer.

Now that I am using Windows XP , it doesn't seem to save the swf files anywhere that I can find.

Also today I received a cute program I would like to keep and when I open it , it says it is in:
    file:///C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/I96BU5A7/Happy Stuff.htm

I can't seem to figure out where this file is stored.

Can anyone help me. I miss saving these neat little files.

    Jean

    Jean,

You have the path to the file - Owner is you, Jean or whatever name you use as User, but you will need to go to Tools > Folder Options > View and 'Show hidden files'.

Rather than plough through Windows Explorer try a search for Happy Stuff.htm - I would recommend using AgentRansack which is far superior to XP's search engine.

Incidentally if you have IE set up to empty Temporary Internet files on closure the file will not be retained.

Thanks Pete, for your help. I think I have figured out the problem. Instead of opening the files in IE, I was trying to open it in Netscape and that is why I could not find it in the temporary internet files. When I managed to open this in IE I found it immediately in the Temporary Internet Files.

I did have the "Show Hidden Files" on and I don't empty Temorary internet files when closing so I knew this was not the problem.

I am planning to get rid of Netscape shortly as I hear it is not going to be updated anymore so I will use the IE and Outlook Express in the future. The only thing stopping me is I haven't yet figured out how to import all my many folders from Netscape mail to Outlook Express. That is for another day.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Jean

P.S. I did download AgentRansack and will install it later.

Glad to hear that the solution was that simple :)

Was where you are... Been Netscape user from N4's through N7.'s. Two weeks ago I decided to try Mozilla 1.5.... was pleasantly surprised. Other than all the "new toys" of any upgrade, the only real change from Netscape to Mozilla was the color and shape of the splash screen when it loads... it's that identical. All said and done, if you liked Netscape, you'll love Mozilla.... and yes, it will pickup your Netscape profile, so it's a painless transition.

    Hi Jean,

If you like Netscape, but are abandoning it only because of the lack of future support, you might want to try Mozilla, a full-featured browser/email suite from the developers of Netscape.

It's been awhile since I used it (I moved on to Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird, which are stand-alone browser and email programs) but, as I recall, you should be able to use your Netscape profile, and import your bookmarks and email with little difficulty. One of the best things about it is that it's widely supported by forums and discussion groups, including the Netscape/Mozilla one right here on the WindowsBBS. And, believe me, once you've tried tabbed browsing, you'll never want to go back to a tabless browser.

I have personal issues with both IE and OE, and wouldn't use them unless nothing else were available. Fortunately, there are alternatives, and I suggest you try Mozilla before opting for IE/OE.

Thank you everyone for your excellent advice. I just downloaded Mozilla and I will install and try to import all the folders and mail and address book into Mozilla and give it a try.

    Thanks.
