I have an HP 970 Inkjet and the printing is skewed at appx 11:58 (clock orientation). I have already cleaned all rollers to no benefit. Paper is in square and tight. I have removed and reinstalled the cartridges. The test sheet prints out crooked too. The paper
tray and feeder is in square and tight, as well. The paper comes out straight, the text does not.

Any ideas?. I am open to making an internal adjustment if that need be.

    Thanks, Lar

Has this problem been with you from new? Maybe the printer is faulty - misaligned cross-travel bar?

Any facility in the printer software for aligning the print heads?

If your HP is the same as my 520 the print head is part of the cartridge - check for correct seating in the print carriage.

    Possibly a faulty cartridge??

    Hi Pete,

It has not always done this skewing. I did recently replace the cartridges to no benefit. In fact, I put the old color back in just be sure and no change. The skewing affects both color and black and white content.

Mis-aligned cross travel bar, hmmm. You have peaked my interest on that one. I will run the alignment prog later today though I think I did it recently anyway.

Thanks and I will report back.

I moved the printer over from home to work about 6 months ago and it went from Win98Se to Win2000 at that time. It turns out that the Win2k drivers do not have an alignment service as does the one for W98.

Any other ideas? Is the mis-aligned cross travel bar adjustable in that it could skew the print or would that mean that the printer damaged or a ***** fell out, etc??

Hi Larry- it sounds silly, but try a different bidirectional mode and see if that makes a difference. Go into the BIOS setup program and change from EPP to ECP or vice versa. Clydeo22

It may sound silly and it may sound do-able but this is the main server at work that we're talking about! Usually, on Fridays I restart the server to update Windows. I'll take a looksee then.

Is the BIOS accessed on W2k with DEL like W98SE??

I didn't mention before but the printer works through an HP Jet Direct device.

    Thank a lot! LarryBb

Hi Larry- do you have the printer hooked up to the parallel port or via USB?

Hi Larry- The key combination to go into setup should be at the bottom of the screen while booting up. You are looking for a setting for the parallel port mode. The main difference between ECP and EPP is that ECP uses a DMA channel. You won't hurt a thing by changing it, but you may take a small performance hit. Please post back with the results. Happy Thanksgiving. Clydeo22
