For the past couple of weeks I've been having a "boik, boik" sound, while browsing web sites and reading emails(O.E), etc.... very annoying. I've checked all the sounds in XP under sounds and there's nothing like a "boik, boik" sound as defaults.(sorry, that's the only way I can describe it)

I've run Ad-aware, Spybot, PestControl, etc.... but have been unable to cure or find it. Anyone any ideas ???

Do you have the google toolbar installed? It has a pop-up blocker that makes a sound whenever it blocks a pop-up. You can turn the sound off in the toolbar options.

Zander, that was my first thought, too. I also have the sounds disabled on AdSubtract and Privacy Bird- bet there are lots of programs with sounds available. Might want to check on that- don't know of any that come in the IE browser itself.

Zander: Thanks, I don't think I have Google Tool Bar installed, although when I type a search in the url section It searches in Google. While there, I went into the preference and there was no mention of "pop-up" or sound - just filter levels (I turned that off but it didn't help) Do you know where I would look for a "pop-up sound on/off ???

Problem Solved..... one by one I uninstalled utilities, testing after each. The guilty party was "Pest Patrol ", after deleting it the annoying sounds left me.

Thanks Johanna and Zanda for taking the time to reply

    :) :D :p

Glad to hear you found it. If you want to reinstall Pest Patrol more than likely there's a setting in it's options to turn the sound off.

Yes, I thought about that - I may just try it. I was on the trial version and thinking serious about buying it so I'd be interested to see if I can eliminate the sound. Thanks again
