my media button's gone from the tool bar and it doesnt seem to be able to play online mpg or asf or whatever files now. it prompts me to download instead. i got no idea what i did to make it disappear.

and i got a problem visiting my mobile's operator site running java. it loads the header with some graphic, loads the orange backdrop and it stucks. i tried calling them and they said its my browser fault. how do i fix this?

    advice anyone?

    Hi realix

I'm not the one to offer advice with media player or what ever
"mobile's operator site running java" could you give more details..
Plus we would need version ,of IE, the OS and WMP and Java

Hum have you tried opening WMP from the start menu and options file types select all and apply , if they are already uncheck apply exit and go back.

and On IE's toolbar ,view ,toolbar ,customize, and adding the icon.
and IE options ,advanced , to multimedia area whats in uses ?

Ive had nothing but problems with the play media umm sidebar so refuse to even use it.

    Regards
    Lonny

Maybe give us a URL to compare notes. also I didn't think to specifically ask ,does it happen elsewhere , and where ?

I wont hurt to jiggle or toggle the settings like I recommended. IE settings and file types often need to be.. so please at least try it..
    also.
And sometimes even though it doesn't make sense a restart to.
    of the program and PC.

"don't display online media content in the media bar" checked. "
so change it apply exit/OK, go test things then go back and set it back to the way you prefer.

Just awhile back ,, start back at the beginning first I never use the side bar and like you don't display media bar.. I rather would when needed let wpm open to play.. I hardly use it ,I noticed it would not let us use the play now or visit web site we'd get a
Internet explorer script error.. so I tinkered and finally decided to install the latest wpm security patch again ,, No go even after several days(restarts),, then it started working again for no apparent reason.. I hate that , not knowing what the fix was..
seams windows has a way of correcting things(sometimes).
Sorry I had this on my mind and it has nothing to do with the problem at hand.. :)

"loads the orange backdrop and it stucks" please expand
    and whith this one to
"my mobile's operator site running java "
    Regards

the orange java thingy doesnt matter.

my ie settings were by default, didnt changed anything to the multimedia part. some websites streams some live radio or plays some kinda trailers online, i got a total blank to the sidebar.

    Hi realix

Your apperenly further advanced than me so, I hope you havent taken offence
also this is a long shot ,, there are some recent security vunerabilitys unpatched with XP's media sidebar on win XP

You might when time permits have a look here
    http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=6;t=7263;hl=lonny+jones

though novanilla is under the impression it was fixed I doubt it.
to sum it up if you click on a mal formed media link it could destroy wmp, couseing you to have to reinstall wmp.
On this system the sidebar uses (I thinK) MPLAYER2.EXE where as the full blown wmp is version 9,your would be differant.

    Good luck
    Lonny

Whoops forgot you have win 2000
it may still applie to that OS

just read the security tracker link

    http://www.securitytracker.com/alerts/2003/Sep/1007689.html
do you have MPLAYER2.EXE exicute it and see if it opens also the regular wmp.I doubt thats it unless youve clicked on a media link that included a mb404.htm
    ========
you could also in folder options, file types see what mpg or asf are set to do open or download.or play
    default here is play

    One more thing if
" "i have all but the first ie; "dont display online media content in the media bar" checked."
then websites cant call it to open.
so clicking on a link would open the full blown version (should)
outside of IE.this maybe why you get
" i got a total blank to the sidebar."
though a person can start it then call from a website and have it play(again i think)But you said the icon is no longer there ?

Im staying out of this from now on,, ive no buisness trying to help with win 2000 nor wmp.
    Regards
    Lonny
