What version of Easy CD Creator are using with which OS?

How are you trying to back your data? Are you trying to copy and paste?

Are you trying to burn a copy of a CD, which was originally made with Direct CD?

I used to sometimes be able to do that. But it would lock my computer up and do all kinds of strange things. If I needed such data backed up, I would copy the entire contents of that Direct CD made info to the hard drive. Then I would burn a regular ISO (regular data burn) from there.

Successfully burned a regular CD with back up data. I can now be assured to input my data to a new PC. Waiting on longhorn OS to hit the market. Issue resolved. Case closed. Thanks Ray.:)

I have a similar problem. I want to drag and drop to a formatted cd or use a batch file to copy altered files. The Microsoft cd burning program takes over and I'd like to disable it or remove it. There's no mention of it in Add or Remove Programs even in the Windows Components section.

Click start>run and type services.msc . In the list of services double click on IMAPI CD-Burning Com Service. Where it says startup type, choose disabled.

Or open My Computer, right click on the CD writer, go to the Recording tab and disable it there.

That should work too but I don't believe it will disable the service itself. Only disable it for that particular drive. My only reason for going the other route was that I figured why have the service running if you aren't going to use it. You'll save yourself a bit of ram etc.

You'll be in for a long wait :D As I understand the situation - a couple of years or more down the line.

When I just want to burn data cds, I just use XP. I highlight what I want, toggle "Folders" on the toolbar, select Copy to and then my CD drive. A little box comes up as it copies the temp files, then a silver icon shows up near the date. I click on that, insert a cd and click "write these files to cd ". When the wizard is done, it deletes the temp files, unless you tell it not to.

I want to write only modified files and if I selected all my gigabytes of files each time it would take a long time for every backup. Selecting individually by set archive bits would bu a huge nuisance.

I use either a batch file which runs xcopy /a or a little programme that only backs up modified files.
