If I understand the gist of your message, you want to restore a backup from another drive to a drive you recently reformatted. I've never actually done this, I usually just back up specific files that I don't want to lose (saved games, .pst files, etc.:) ) to a CD. If something goes wrong, and I need to reformat, I format, re-install windows and programs, and then copy everything back from the CD.

Perhpas someone who has more experience baking up 98 can help you more. Personally, I think you've gone overboard, but that's just my opinion.

Also, next time try to be a bit clearer with your posts. My initial reaction was the same as Markp62 specifically . Fortunately for you I've got some spare time on my hands, so was able to spend a bit more time actually reading your message and fathoming it's meaning, and actual question.

One thing to do first, tho, is to run a surface check on the drive that was formatted, make sure there are no physical problems with it.

    Would you use some punctuation?
    What are these error messages?
Do you have the Windows folder copied onto another partition?
Do you have the Windows setup files copied onto another partition?
Or, is this backup a backup created using MsBackup, the one that is installed with windows? If so, you will not be able to just restore it, you would have to get windows installed first.
Just copy the setup files onto your other partition using a CD, and run setup from there.
    d:
    md\win98
    copy X:\win98\*.* d:\win98
    d:\win98\setup

Sub the X for the proper CD drive letter.

Maybe someone else wants to figure out where your sentences end and begin, and then figure out how to help you.
You have not posted what these error messages are.
    Good luck to you.

What application did you use to make your backup? I'm assuming you used the MSBackup that comes with Windows. Knowing how you made your backup will help a lot with telling you how to install your backup.

But first you have to install Windows to the formatted drive. Not the backup. The origional Windows. Then use whatever application you used to make the backup you have on your D: drive to install the backup. The backup will over write Windows and only your backup will be installed.

A better discription of your error messages would help a lot here.
But I think your error messages are a result of you trying to install your backup to a formatted drive without Windows being installed.
