Hi bob- boot with the startup disk and at the prompt type-
scanreg /restore and press Enter. See if you can get a good registry to restore. Clydeo22

You'll need to Fdisk the drive and delete then create a new partition, reboot, format c:, then install windows. Install motherboard drivers first thing after running setup.
If Fdisk cannot work on the drive, you will need Delpart to delete the old partition.
    Using Fdisk and Format
What was on the drive is gone.

    Mark is very probably correct.
I just wonder if its just a corrupt FAT structure.
On the ERU floppy there is scandisk, so at the A:\ prompt
    type scandisk.
    Not very hopeful tho'
    regards

Would a program such as Norton's Disk Doctor be of any use in a situation like this? Clydeo22

You might try to reboot then hit your | Delete | key and check your bios settings to see if it still recgnizes your harddrive first.

Just a thought, not really knowing what really caused your problem.;)

Can't hurt as long as there wasn't anything like "Go-Back" running.

But try this - Boot to your startup floppy and do a "fdisk /MBR" - it could be just a bad pointer to the partition table.
