I have just changed my e-mail and I am trying to notify my collective e-mail address of this change. I am unable to send out more than 100 names at a time in Netscape 7.0. I did not have this problem with Navigator 4.7. Can anyone help me? Do I just need to change some protocol in the program?

Can you still do that in 4.7?
Most ISPs have changed their rules since lists of that kind would be considered Spam.
In fact fewer message than that would be suspect. Check with your ISP.

    Welcome to the Forum, archeoterix!

    Hi archeoterix,

The number of recipients is determined by your ISP. You should check their web site for FAQ, and there you should find information on the number of recipients allowed.

Thanks Ramona; but this does not explain why I could send out a long list in Outlook Express of over 100 names but not the same list in netscape 7.0. Any ideas?

    Hi archeoterix,

When you have 100 recipients listed in your email, do you address them using "TO:" or do you "CC:" the recipients. I have learned, since trying to find an answer for you that when you send a message to multiple recipients you should not address it to "To:" and then the list of people. Instead use "CC:" to send a message to all the recipients. By using the CC: the recipients will be able to see all the people the email was sent to, and a recipient can use the "Reply All" as they did in Netscape 4.x.

Also, do you get an error, and if so could you please post that exact error here?

As to why IE allows this will remain a mystery. I have little to no knowledge of IE, and don't allow it on the Internet. I have uninstalled OE...

    Thanks!

Thanks again Ramona for your input but still no luck.

What I am doing is copying all the names in my "collective addresses" then pasting them into the bcc line of netscape. What I get is a long list of comma delimited names. I am using bcc because I do not want to share my e-mail addresses with other parties.

What happens is that I get an error message which reads as follows:

"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: too many recpients. Please check the message recepients and try again. "

Can anyone suggest any other ways to address my problem of trying to send out more than 100 addresses in Netscape 7.0 at a time?

    archeoterix,

What happens if when addressing the email, you click on the Address Tab, then select the recipients there.

Highlight the addressee's, in the left pane, then once highlighted, click on "BCC" which will then list all recipients in the right pane.

Do you get the error using this method?

It doesn't sound like your isp's mail server will allow sending mail to 100 recipients at once. The error says it all...

Did you use a different ISP when you used OE to send mail to 100 recipients at once? Is there any chance of splitting the list into smaller parts?

    Thanks tranquilo

From the error it has to be a server side issue. The mail server responded: too many recpients. This tells you that your ISP does limit the number of single mail recipients...
