To clear out the auto complete (which would pop up as you began to type in the address bar) you must go to Tools, Internet Options, General and delete History. You can set History to delete every time you close down the browser. If I were paranoid that my parents or boss would notice all the history gone, I would go through Windows Explorer to Drive C, My name, Documents and Settings, Local settings and delete the selected secret History files from there. Then I would visit the recycle bin, dump it, and reboot the computer.

However, if I were your mother, and I were worried about your online activities, or if the law were interested in them, you would quickly discover that the steps I outlined above only make it more complicated to check up on you, but not impossible. You would be busted in a New York Minute. So, my advice to you is to refrain from doing anything you are not allowed to, or that you would be embarrassed, or in trouble about, on the computer. You might as well assume that anything you do on the computer is public knowledge, and act accordingly. If you really need your privacy, get a job, buy your own computer and set strong passwords. It won't deter the law, but it will drive your parents crazy.

Thanks, but that isn't what I am trying to delete. I am WAY OVER
having Mommy check on me, since I am a Granny! I know how to delete history of web sites and the like, I just want to know how to clear the search history, or disable it.

    Thanks.;)

Start\Run\Type regedit in the dialog boxclick ok\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SearchAssistant\ACMru\5603. Right click on each entry then click on delete\click Ok. I hope this is what you're looking for.

I think you're referring to the past entries that drop down when you enter the first letter of a new search. If that's the case, you can delete them all by going into Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Content tab>Auto Complete button and click on "Clear all forms. "

If you want to disable it completely, uncheck the appropriate box in the top section of that Auto Complete window.

If you want to clear the list on a specific search engine but leave others, go to the page with the list you want to clear and double click on the empty search box to make the list drop down. Use the up and down arrow keys to select each entry you want to delete and press the Delete key on the keyboard.

Sorry about that I misunderstood your question. If you ever used Search thats how you would delete that list. My machine's number is 5603 maybe yours is a different number. But I'm glad you found a solution to your problem.

    Dolphin,
Didn't mean to sound cranky. Just had a teenager try to tell me he didn't do something on the computer when I know for sure he DID. Sorry if I sounded sharp, did not mean to be disrespectful in any way.

Miz, thank you for explaining "clear auto complete" and disable better than I did.

Clearing auto complete through the browser does not clear auto complete in Windows Explorer.
The only way to do that is through the registry.
