Yesterday, I finally deleted over 2000 emails from my inbox in OE, and finally I could delete no more. I cannot delete a single email now. Someone, please help. I still have over 3000 I need to delete.

Sounds like you have been "mail bombed ". We could use a little more information, such as Operating system and what version of OE.

Assuming you have IE5 or higher, Outlook Express comes packaged with Internet Explorer. Routine functions such as deleting email can usually be fixed ny rinning the Internet Explorer repair tool. Go to Start--Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove programs. Scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer, click to remove, a window should pop up, chose repair.

The fix for most problems using Outlook Express can be
    found here.

Sounds like your inbox or deleted folder(or both) are corrupted. Open OE, create a new folder, move the emails you want to keep into it, maybe name it inboxnew. Then close OE. Then start, find, files/folders. Look for inbox.dbx. Then right click and delete it. Do the same for deleted.dbx. When you reopen OE, these folders will be recreated. Caution, if you have more than one "identity "(not to be confused with accounts). Slightly different method.

    Good OE site here.

Thanks to you both. I tried the internet repair tool three times to no avail. I have at least 5 folders. I tried deleting mail from one of them, and it didn't work either. I will try aleekat's plan tomorrow and get back here and let you know how it comes out.

You might also want to try to Compact the folder first (File > Folder > Compact All Folders).

    Thanks Arie!!!

Compacting All Folders fixed it. Now if you could explain what took place in dirt farmer's language, maybe I could learn just a little.

    Thanks, again,

    Mole

Basically, you had too many messages! OE's performance will drop markedly (to the point that it appears not to work) if there are large numbers of messages stored in the default folders. Additionally, OE does not recover space (created through deletion) until the folders are compacted.

    aleekat's Method Next Step

I got all of the mail out of my inbox. I can still delete the deleted mail, but I have over 8000 letters in my deleted mail. I can still delete mail there, but my "Sent" mail is jam-packed, and I cannot delete any mail from my Sent box. I will have to use aleekat's method there. I may have to have more assistance. I will report back after I try it. Thanks all,
    Mole

If your ISP has web mail. I would go there and also clean out the folders. Sometimes OE doesnt sync with web mail.

This has happened to me a few times.
Another method that may help when you get too much mail in a folder is Click FIND and then Browse .. choose the folder that is giving you the problem. Then under From enter in . Then click find now, This will bring up most or all the mail in that folder.
You then can select any OR all of the messages and then delete them. This has worked for me.
