Has anyone had any experience with software called Pest Patrol which claims to offer protection against pop ups? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

If your main concern is pop-ups, I can highly recommend the pop-up blocker that you get with the latest version of the Google browser toolbar. It's the best I've seen at blocking and it's really easy to make an exception of any specific web site that you want to be able to pop up windows for you.

If you run 2K or XP, you will probably also want to turn off and disable the Messenger service (unless you are on a business network that uses it for alerts and info messages). Note, NOT Windows Messenger which is a completely different thing.
