I've got a problem. When I start up I can choose the accounts I want.
When I go to the control panle to manage my accounts, it is blank with only a back button. I have no possibility to modify or delete any accounts as they do not appear.

What can I do now ?

    Thanks for your answer

    Fred

    XP-home or XP-Pro?

Your logged on account is a member of the local administrator group or not?

    Hmmmmm. Strange behavior.

Try start~run~cmd and then launching the window with
    control userpasswords2
and see if it is still blank when started that way.

Or open computer managment from the control panel and go into the users and groups section. See if your accounts show up and if you can do what you want from there.

    same problem

I'm suffering from the same behavior. Followed Newt's suggestion and the window that pops up is not blank, and I can change all the settings.

Again, the window that is blank is the one I get to by going start -> control panel -> user accounts when logged on as administator. using windows xp pro

I know i am member of the local group because when i went to control userpasswords2 and clicked properties for the name I was logged in as, went to the group membership tab, and changed my user type to administrator and recieved the message "The user could not be added because the following erros has occurred: The specified account name is already a member of the local group. "

how can i restore the window? also how can i restore the fast logon feature (fast user switching?) that has been lost too?

Can you get in at all? If you can, go to administrative services and check to see whether fast user switching is enabled. While you're in there, scroll through security and see if everything looks okay. Is it possible that you let your password expire? By default, Pro passwords are set to expire in 40 days. Maybe you could get into your admin account and reset yourself as a user? Let us know what you find.

    thank you for your reply

where can i find administrative services? when i go into the start > control panel > user accounts and the panel comes up with a a back button labeled, forward button, and home button on the top. the bottom half of the window (the one that should be displaying the content) is completely blank and white. i have reset my pro administrator password yesterday, no problems there. how would i reset my self as a user without the user accounts panel? would start > run > "control userpasswords2" work?

Try a right-click on the My Computer icon then left click on Manage and you should see the section for local groups and users. Open it and then open the user section.

PALLUY, are you still experiencing the problem? I could help you fix it without losing any data if you have an XP cd available. Post a reply if your interested.
