    Here's an interesting one... :)

I have a Compaq 5050 PII 333 (what a GREAT model #, huh? 5050 - makes you think...) with XP Pro and all the recent updates. It has onboard sound...ES1869 is what's in device manager. Attached are non-powered speakers.
I noticed today the volume slider was all the way up so I turned it down. As soon as I released the left button to set it lower it climbed all the way back up full on it's own!
What in the world is going on?

How were you able to get XP on that dinosaur?

Check and see if there are any updated drivers available for your sound card, though judging by the machine's age, I don't think that's very likely. If there are no new drivers available, reinstall the old ones by deleting the card out of Device Manager, reboot and let Windows redetect it and then install the drivers again.

Also make sure you aint got any programs running in the background that could be commandeering your volume.

It was not doing this after initial install and sp1.
It only started doing this after hitting Windows update and grabing updates. Wish I could narrow it down to a specific one.

It's not bothering me too much - can deal with it.
I was more curious if it was happening to anybody else or if someone knew of it.

    Thanks for the reply.
