Can you reply with the motherboard model number? Easy if you have the motherboard manual, otherwise you need to look on the motherboard itself (usually between the PCI slots, but maybe on the edge). Can also tell from the BIOS string, a long series of numbers and letters on the second screen when booting.

What size processor the M/B will take varies with the abilities of the motherboard. The BIOS may also be able to be upgraded to take a faster processor.

Download and run Aida32 which should give your mobo details and BIOS version and date. Then go to the mobo manufacturer's website - check out the board capabilities re. CPU's. Often there is a list of CPU's and the mobo revision and BIOS version which are compatible.

Thank you Pete....I found the board(Hot-591 P) on the Shuttle web site through their "discontinued product" links the other night. They have a downloadable manual that I will try to decipher, but with my limited knowledge Iam not sure if I will find the simplified information Iam looking for.Was kind of hoping to find someone who has "Been there,Done that ":D

Looking for information I accidentally downloaded the manual.

    "Main Processor
    AMD K6 166~266 MHz, K5 PR75~PR166,
Intel Pentium (P54C) 75~200 MHz, Pentium MMX (P55C) 166~233 MHz,
    Cyrix/IBM 6x86 P120+~P200+, 6x86L P200+, 6x86MX PR166~PR233,
    IDT-C6 150~200MHz "

"SDRAM memory modules up to 256 MB "

"HOT-591 main board equipped with an AGP slot for an AGP VGA card that supports 133MHz
2X mode for texture mapping z-buffering and alpha blending. "

Looks like it is maxed out at 266mhz. You MIGHT be able to find an overdrive processor for it. Don't like the chances (could try Powerleap). Might be better to save toward a bigger computer. I network my older computers with my main one.

    Any suggestions Pete?

I downloaded the manual from ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/Manuals/en/591p/ if anyone else would like a look at it. When you look at the manual on page 11 (shows as page 12 in Adobe Reader) it shows the settings for a AMD 300. To me going from a 266 to 300 you are not going to notice a change.

I agree with Matt - this board is at it's limit - and with Russ, that even if you could up the CPU to 300 you would not notice the difference.

All you can basically do is up the RAM to 256 MB if it is not at that level already. Depends on how much you have on board at the moment, but 128 > 256 would give noticeable improvement.

Ram still availible from Crucial - note PC 133 is backwards compatible with slower RAM

Thanks to everyone for their input and energy.I found a AMD site that listed recommended mobo for their processors. It appeared (to me)that the 300 was the only upgrade that would work.
I have already maxed out on RAM and other upgrades so I guess its time to make plans on building a newer and faster PC.
Thanxz again folxz........Great and helpfull site:)
