I need some help restoring my bookmarks please. I had a TON of bookmarks in Netscape 7 that I use all the time and they've all just disappeared.

This happened once before in July and I was able to restore them somehow - I don't remember exactly but I'm fairly certain they were in the Protected files area or something when I double clicked my recycled bin and I was able to restore them. I had never deleted them on purpose. Once again I did not delete them myself and they were in the browser this morning. I just went to add something and all the bookmarks are now missing. Unlike last time, I've been unable to find out how to restore them this time. I've looked in the recycled bin protected files area but they're not in there.

    My browser signature is:
    Netscape 7.0
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020823 Netscape/7.0

Can someone please help me restore them?? Thanks!

Not sure if this will help, but you could try this. If that doesn't help, I'll try to find something else.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info. Actually I browsed to the different locations where my file could be and also did a search for bookmarks.html file and the files in those particular folders were only 1K. The last backup I had was about 69K and that was in July. I've added many bookmarks since then so the file size should be more than 69K. I guess somehow it has deleted the file once again. I'm not sure how it got deleted last time and this time. I haven't done any new installations, upgrades or anything of the sort. I've checked in the recycled protected area and the bookmark files in there were also only 1K.

    Welcome to the Forum, EvilHaider!

    Hi EvilHaider,

Did you have a crash just before losing your Bookmarks? That can wipe out your Bookmarks file.

If you run Windows XP did you follow this procedure to look in your *.slt folder:
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

If you have no bookmarks.html file that is 69 KB+, and you have opened the existing files with Notepad, and there are no Bookmarks, then your file is gone. That's really tough, as I know how important those Bookmarks are to all of us.

A good practice is to back up the entire Profiles folder on a frequent basis, especially if you make a lot of changes, i.e. add Bookmarks, Addresses, etc.

    Ramona :D

    Haider,

I see that Ramona is on the job. Which is a good thing, because I haven't found anything else yet. I do agree with Ramona and strongly agree that you should back up your profile often. I make a backup every week, just in case.

    Mike
