encoding problems [merged]

encoding problems

I am a beginner, and am sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, I have looked but wouldn't know if it was addressed under different title.. when ever I am changing from one area to another area, like here, from one spot to another, I have to go back to the view button scroll down to encoding and change back to Western Europe (windows) to see everything that is on the screen and sometimes this doesn't work either. Please help me figure out what I have done to cause this to happen.Thanks

I noticed you've been sitting here for a spell, with no responces as of yet. I'd be more than happy to help you try to figure out what your viewing problem is but I don't fully understand what's happening, using your discription.

Can you be a little more descriptive. Draw me a picture, I may be having a "Blonde Day ".

Do you mean changing pages or scrolling from the top of a page to bottom.

you can't see everything that is on the screen.

What do you see,? What don't you see? What do you expect to see?

Have to change encoding

What do you have encoding set to on a normal basis?

encoding problems continue

when I am changing web pages most of the pages do not display the graphics or pictures properly, all I see are lines, boxes, and little red x's. to fix this I must go to view/encoding and change it to western europe (windows) then it will show the graphics. I must do this most of the time. I have defrag and checked to see that the little box is checked in "show pictures" and I did a spyhunter and checked that and still it does not work..as far as blonde days,, when it comes to computer, I have blonde days everyday... I appreciate all the help you can give me. Thank you so very much...

Encoding should be set to Western European iso or windows if language is english. At least that's my setup. Multilanguage support may use/need autoselect but I have always had Western European iso. What is yours set to if you have to change it to western euro?

graphics still not showing, just little red X's

I am still having problems with the encoding with graphics not showing, just little red x's I went to the microsoft and did the check for the problems and for awhile it worked, then I have maint scheduled on my computer and when it defra it went back to the little red x's again... goddez1 any other ideas.

 

The only thing I can suggest is to use the fix that worked last time.

Why windows decided to revert back to the previous problem could be caused by several reasons. I would only be guessing at this point but a few reasons may be:

A scandisk prior to the Defrag may have detected a problem and the fix took out your fix.

Registry problem detected on a bootup may have restored older registry backup that didn't include the fix.

If network setup for individual users any failure to logon with the account that this fix was applied will not be reflected.

Not doing an occasional scandisk "thorough" can lead to undetected bad sectors on harddrive and anything written to these, such as on a defrag, will, in effect, disappear.

File corruption due to "the many reasons" this happens.......

etc etc etc.....

This sounds like a setting in IE. Open Internet Explorer, and select Tools --> Internet Options, and click the "Advanced" Tab. Scoll down to "Multimedia ", and ensure "Show image download placeholders" is NOT selected. I would thuink the most likely source of the problem is an IE update. WE all know how well an MS Update works...

 

little red x's

I don't know what fixed it last time. I just followed the list and checked it all, I did this again and still I have little red x's. I checked the multiplmedia buttons also, show pictures is checked and the other one is not. so It should work again, but it doesn't.I do appreciate your attempts to help. I really don't know what else to do... I have contacted my son-in-law in hopes he can help but the army has him in the field right now so unreachable...thanks again, and if anyone comes up with something else. please let me know... Is there any updates you think I should re-do, maybe this would help or would it only make things worse...
