AVG Resident Shield shows I have Virus Backdoor.vb.5. in c:\system volume information\_restore....\rp130\a0013272.exe

But when I use AVG scanner, it can't find this virus, acturely the size of this folder is zero.

Is it a wrong warning? If not, how can I remove it?

    Thanks!

The first thing I would do is delete all my restore points, then reboot. Then I would go to Symantec or any of the other major AV companies and run a scan. If an an infection was detected, I would follow the instructions to remove it. (Good advice usually from Symantec,Cert
or just Google it) then reboot, and run the scans again.

If the scan wasn't clean, I would shut off my modem, back up anything in my DATA files only, and NFDisk and Reinstall the OS. If the scan was clean, I would assume System Restore logged something that AVG flagged. (Don't really know how AVG works, so someone correct me if I am wrong)

The important thing is to read up on whatever you think you might have, and determine the best method for cleaning it up, and how to be certain your machine is clean. This info is easy to find if you can get online without spreading your germs. If your machine has been infected you need to also find out how or why, so that it doesn't happen again. PREVENTION is always easier than the cure. Post back and let us know how you're doing.

The scanner is not accessing c:\system volume information\_restore....\rp130\a0013272.exe. When the windows operating system accesses the Restore Points, the shield then detects it.
You just need to disable System Restore and reboot to get rid of that file. Then renable System Restore if you choose, and you will have a new restore point created on next boot up.

Ifyou disable System Restore it should wipe out all existing restore points.

Then when you re-enable it is should make a new one right then.

Do not count on System restore making its own restore points. It is SUPPOSED to but it may not. All the time that I have had XP I have yet to see it make a Restore point on its own. Other than when I disable and re-enable it.

It has also most of the time but not always made one when
    installing software.

Now mind you, I am writing about the way things work for me an my machine. I find system restore requires checking up on FREGUENTLY.
