In Microsoft Word how do I change the setting for the letter "I" (typed on its own) from the default capital letter type to a normal letter type "i "?

    Hi.

It probably depends on the version of Word you're using but in Office XP you click on "Tools" then "Autocorrect options" then find "i" in the list below using the elevators. When you find it click on the line and just change the cap "I" to a lower case "i" in the editing box then "Replace ". That should do it. When necessary, change it back. That way you don't have to delete it and have to put the whole thing back in.

This list is great for changing all sorts of things. A great tool.

If you only need to do it occasionally, type it, let the app autocorrect, change it back and it should stay.

Thank you! Tools > Auto correct in Word is indeed helpful! I just didn't know where it was. In my native language "i" means "in" and it is (or was) a painfully common word.

Re changing the autocorrected "i" manually it is timeconsuming. As soon as you press space after the "i" it changes back to "I" again. the only way I found was to create a space and then insert the "i" before the space and then move the cursor away from it without pressing wordspace..... We do have great fun sometimes...
