I have a dial up connection for the internet/email and after connecting and getting online, the connection stalls and won't load a page or check mail for periods of approxmately 20-30secs at a time. During this time the connection icon in the system tray is not lit up. Eventually it comes back online without having to redial. I have connected a laptop to the phone line and it didn't have any problems and have contacted my ISP and configured everything as they said. The same problem existed with my previous ISP.

I use IE6 and Outlook Express and Win98 OS.

    Any help would be appreciated.

My first guess would be that something is wrong with your modem. Shut off the comp, UNPLUG it, open the case, pull the modem out, and then stick it back in to the mobo. If it happened with two diff ISPs and the telephone line is fine, the modem is the next thing on the list.

Unplugged and replugged modem, doesn't seem to have made any difference at this stage.

One thing I forgot to mention is that it rarely stalls if you are downloading.......that seems to keep it alive.
