The light for the hard drive on one of my machines is lit constantly and today it started to make a clicking noise. It's the noise of when your hd stops spinning (I think).

Anyone know what might cause this?

    Thanks!

I have to say that this all sounds rather ominous - the end may be near - of the HD that is :(

Suggest you back up any important data from that m/c and run a HD diagnosis - should be a program on the manufacturer's web site to do just that.

Alternatively run scandisk - but don't let it fix errors automatically

    Hi.

    PeteC said it best.

You might pop the case and unplug and replug the hdd cable, change to another power plug for the hdd and try it. I've seen a power plug not make good contact and do this.
