I just updated my computer and among other things, installed WINXP. As soon as I tried to jump on the internet, I got the Server not found/Page Cannot be displayed error. So I tried Netscape and wound up with a blank page. Thinking it could be the firewall, I shut down the firewall only to get the same results.

My isp suggested that I go to this site to run winsockfix.exe but when I downloaded the program to my disk & brought it back to my computer it read the disk as unformatted.

Outlook is working fine with the anti spam settings actually working better than it did before.

I dont know if this has anything to do with anything, but I ran Spybot S&D right before downloading my email & found about two pages of stuff.

Are these (expletive) gremilins at work again in my den or is it time to start drinking again?

Wow! An ISP with a techie who gave you good advice!

Removing spyware, espeically newdot.net, although others can have the same result, often messes up winsock. Running the winsock fix is the most likely fix for the problem.

I keep a winsock fix around all the time...either on the harddrive or on a backup CD for just such occasions.

Try downloading it again and emailing it to yourself, since your Outlook works okay.

You could try the "recovery" in spybot to see if that is indeed the problem.

Gremlins take a day off, but...

Thanx for the quick responses guys,

I tried the recovery function & was able to get on long enough to download the program & run it. Only problem is that OE decided to **** out & now I have to run winsockfix every time I wish to surf the net. I also noticed that I picked
up almost 100 spam messages in the course of an hour. What did I do to **** these guys off?
