    Hi,
Recently tried to install MSN Messenger and I get an error basically that unicows.dll cannot be found.

Searched and found unicows.dll in both Windows/system and in the MSN Messenger folder.

I tried regedit - find InstalledFiles - found it and clicked modify then cleared the data and closed. Restarted my computer and went to Run - regsvr32 unicows.dll which tells me unicows.dll cannot be installed.. error 0x00000485.

I use Windows 98. Anyone have a suggestion for me?
    Thanks.
    Sheila

    Hi sc3,

I had this conflict once. Different program and different dlls but same conflict. Try renaming the unicows.dll in the Windows/System folder to unicowsold.dll and restart your computer. This should clear it up, it did for me.

By "it" do you mean unicows.dll? If so, then uninstall Messenger, and reinstall it. I think regsvr32 told you the dll couldn't be installed because it was already installed in the System folder.

Unicowsold.dll is associated with the program that uses that dll and unicows.dll is now associated with Messenger. Both programs wouldn't associate with the same dll because they are probably different versions, as was my case.
