Just had windows 98 removed and reloaded on my computer.

Tried to connect to my printer but the disk will not work. In fact, I tried other disk but get nothing.

Can any help? I know next to nothing about computers so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Ovenmitt

    OvenMitt,

Which disks are we talking about here? Windows CD or what?

Have the drivers been loaded for your printer?

Go to Start > Settings > Printers. Do you see your printer there?

If not double click on the Add Printer icon and follow the wizard through.

    cd-rom

    Thanks PeteC

Tried the disk that came with the printer to be used for installing it. Nothing happened.

Then tried another disk with games on it.... nothing happened.

It seems no matter what disk I use in cd-rom it will not work.

    Thanks
    Ovenmitt

What do you mean by removing Windows? Did you reformat your hard drive? Or did you do a restore with a cd usually supplied by computer manf. to restore it to the original state?

If so, you need to have the printer attached, then as suggested earlier, go to settings->printer->add printer->then have your printer software in the cd drive and choose the "have disk" option->check the cd box (or read the printer install info), then say "ok" and follow the promts from there, Cyn

When you put a CD into the drive does the drive light flash and can you see the CD in the drive in Windows Explorer.

If it does and you can then the problem may be that Autorun is not enabled on the drive. So ........

Right click My Computer icon on Desktop > Properties > Device Manager > double click on CDROM > right click on the CDROM drive > Properties > Settings and ensure that 'Auto Insert Notification' is checked.

If the light on the CD drive does not flash when you insert a CD - and the CD drive is not shown in Windows Explorer the chances are that the power cable or data cable to the CD are not connected.

    Hi Cynindesign and PeteC

Thank you both for your replies.

Followed your advice for the printer and CDRom and everything appears to be working now.

Cyn... Windows 98 was reloaded at the computer repair shop. I would never attempt it myself with my lack of knowledge. :(

    Thanks again
