Greetings,

I have a windows 2k server w/domain and 7 clients/ workstations w/ various flavors for OS.

My one area for concern is my laptop with WinXP Pro.

When I dial up to the internet, yes dial up, I connect to my isp no problem.

However, I lose the ability to browse my LAN, or even my mapped network drives. This only happens when I am dialed up to my ISP.

As soon as I disconnect from dial up, I can resume browsing my LAN and the network drives are connected.

I can still ping everything on my LAN and I see my server in Windows Explorer. I just can't connect to the Server when dialed up.

Any ideas?

Is the modem/dial up connection shared or only being used by the one laptop?

Are there any good clues in your event logs?

Please provide the following info - making it clear which data was obtained before and during a dialup connection. You can just copy/paste the contents of the text file with a short note added to make sure which is before and which is during.

start~run~cmd
ipconfig /all > c:\config.txt
then dial in, get connected and
ipconfig /all >> c:\config.txt

That should make it fairly clear which settings are causing the problem.

 

cool...The modem/dial up connection is not shared and only being used on the laptop.

The other workstations use the same dial up ISP # and have no problems. I have compared settings.
