Symptoms: when I bring up a page, windows bbs for example, the page loads okay, my cursor changes back to the pointer, but it takes 6-7 seconds before I can move around on the page. If I bring up google to search, the page loads okay, but I don't have access to the search line. What's wrong?

I clear my history, temp files, cookies, defrag
    My system:
    HP Pavilion 04
    1200 MHZ
    1.20 GHz
    256 MB ram
    cable modem
    Nvidia 64
    Windows xp
    adware 6
    mcafee vs 7
    mcafee guardian
    Pop Up Blocker

Phyllis - maybe - no harm in doing a complete cleanup as outlined by Mflynn.

    Hello Phyllis,

When did this start? Did it start with the install of one of the processes on your list? An obvious one to question is the Pop-up blocker.

I'm not familiar with McAfee programs: is mcafee guardian the firewall? What else does it do besides the firewall function?

    Regards - Charles

Just another thought- go to Control Panel and double check your Mouse settings. Maybe even try another mouse, if you have an extra. Navigation delay could be caused by hardware. I don't understand what you mean by:
"If I bring up google to search, the page loads okay, but I don't have access to the search line. "

It's greyed out? Not there? Can't click on it? Won't accept typed input from the kb?

    Post back.

You may have had a minor hijack - check Internet Options/Accessibility - if "User style sheet" has a tick in the "Format documents...." box, untick it, after using the browse button to find out where the stylesheet (.css) file is located.

    Delete the stylesheet later.

    slow down hesitation

No, it wasn't checked under internet options, accessibility. This is driving me crazy!! I go on to a page, loads fast, start to move around the page and then I'm stuck for many seconds. The cursor does not turn into a timer.

I have adware and I did run it. Frankly, I don't understand this program and the instructions are unclear. Items in red, items in green, well the explanation point is red, but the name is in green. So is this red or green????

I have spy bot I run it but I don't do anything because it comes up with an entire page of backweb lite and turbo download.

Pop Up Blocker has been on for a while, I don't have any problems with it or my McAfee 7.0 (much much better than the previous versions).

I can't figure out is it Windows xp, browers or what is causing this.

    slow down

The google box is not greyed out, it's there but I can't use it for many many seconds after the google or any other page loads for many seconds afterward. It's as though something is going on in the background or underground. If I type fast enough as soon as google or any other page loads, I may get the first 2 letters in but then nothing. If I continue to type even though it doesn't show, many many seconds later all that I typed will appear. There's a delay. I don't know how to explain it. The same occured when I typed this. I clicked on reply page loads quickly but where post subject is I only typed fast enough to get in the "s" in slow down before I had no response. Many seconds later I can continue with my typing and it will appear.

    Hi Phyllis,

Backweb is malware. SpyBot's forum, scroll down to the SpyBot section: http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi

SpyBot backs up what it deletes.

Turbo download - very good chance it's interfering with the IE. Standard common wisdom is that download accelerators do more harm than good. Did you install it? If not, I'd get rid of it soonest.

    Regards - Charles

    Problem solved

Believe it or not but it there was a microsoft update waiting to be installed. Once this was installed, the stalling stopped. My son actually stumbled on this. I knew I had an update, but I didn't bother to download it and I forgot about it. I don't think it was the actual downloaded update but just the fact it was waiting to be downloaded. Geez, boy I'm glad that one is over with, it almost got the best of me!:D

I am as confused as you are.

Phyllis, is it possible your son did something else to fix your computer?

I suppose a computer can spontaneously heal itself. (It doesn't happen for me much, but that's usually because I crash it trying to fix it.) Oh, well, glad you got it fixed, and thanks for posting back.

    slow down

Well, I don't understand it also, but I've spent hours reading the advise, searching for advise everywhere on the web, downloading spybot, etc. I posted my pc specs and what program were running, etc. Thank you all ;)

    Hi Phyliss.

What you never did is tell us what you did other than the update.

Did you have SpyBot get rid of **** like Backweb? What I'm trying to find out is what else did you do besides the MS update.

I'm still having a hard time with that.

    slow down

I know it is strange, but no other environmental factors changed, just downloading windows update. For whatever reason, although I clicked, download later, somehow it was interferring with the speed of the pc. I never had this happen, but also I think I always download upon notification. I just don't know why, but I am sure glad it stopped:D
