XP is supposed to perform certain functions automatically with its removable drives like my Zip drive or my digi camera. With the Zip drive I had it set to open up the disks in an Explorer window and with the camera, to start the camera's program upon detection.

It did these things the first few times, then just stopped. Now I have to do it manually. How can I bring back that automatic thing?

Plug the drive or camera in. Then, open my computer and right click on the drive. Click on the autoplay tab. In the top box select the proper type of file (pictures for the camera for example) and then select the appropriate action.

I inserted a Zip disk and right clicked on its icon in My Computer, but there's no autoplay in the context menu. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

edit: OK I found what you were talking about for my Zip disk. But when I right click on either of the icons for my digital camera, there's no auto play tab. How do I get the camera's program to run automatically like it did the first time?

    Thanks again.

I would try an uninstall/reinstall of the camera software.

Sorry shadowhawk. I guess I goofed. You need to right click on the drive and choose properties. In the window that opens you'll see an autoplay tab.

Arie, I tried your program, but it didn't list my camera so I couldn't use it for that. Thanks anyway.
