In XP, asuming this is a new drive and when you say "installed" you mean you plugged in the IDE cable and power supply:

    Right click "my computer "
Click: "manage" in drop down menu
    Click: "Disk management "

Drive should appear in bottom window.

    Right Click on drive

    Click "format "

Windows will give you an opportunity to pick drive letter.

    Click yes to warning.

XP will format drive, assign drive letter. Drive will then be in Explorer and My Computer and be usable.

I would strongly reccomend against using any software like MaxBlast to install hard drive.

    Good Luck

    Martin
