IOhave a Dell Dimension 4100 running win2k that has a really loud power supply. My office gets warm in the Summer I do a lot of recording. Does anyone know of a particularly quiet power supply? Or a computer that uses one? Would appreciate any advice.

Look here for some ideas -

I have one of their quiet power supplies and it is quieter :), but bear in mind that CPU fans, case fans can also contribute to the noise problem.

    Wiry,

You say you have a Dell - may wish to read this before replacing the power supply.

    Regards,

Known about this for a long time but thats the best write up I've ever seen on it - great find. Goes right into one of my notebooks for timely reference - thanks.

Thanks a lot for the info ... I'll wait a little longer and then replace the Dell with something else. The reason I always bought Dell was for the reasons in the article. They used unadulterated Windows, etc. etcd. I'm amazed that replacing a power supply could fry the motherboard. Wow. No warning or anything.

    Thanks again.

Kudos to Ice on that one, great "find" Guy :)
Always suspected that too but never saw it in black and white before.
Kind of makes it tough on us hardware types trying to help a friend resurrect a dead "door stop "
