    Hi,

I have windows 98SE and am having a problem when using internet. I have broadband which I can connect to right away, and for a few moments when I open a window all is fine. When I try to open another window it takes a long long time to load, sometimes doesnt load at all saying cant be displayed. I close windows and try to again to open a window with same results, taking forever to load. Have closed down as much as I can from start up to reduce performance percentage, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone advise please.

    regards

    Joan (beginner)

    Hi Joan!

Have you tried clearing the temporary internet files, deleted cookies and cleared history?

Have you scanned for spyware? If not, download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or AdAware (you can use them both.) Let whichever one you choose clean up any spyware it finds.

Then get CWShredder and run it to remove CoolWebSearch, which can cause the symptoms you describe (link to the download is near the bottom of the page).

Finally, if you are specifically having problems getting to search engine sites you may be infected with Qhosts. A removal tool can be download here.

I have used all of the above tools. They are safe and effective.
