98 setup help

    hello i hope some one can help me.. i am trying to upgrade a computer 95 to 98 i get the following error message:

    set up has detected the following decoding error "set up has detected a corrupt set up (.cab) file" set up will attempt to recover from this sitution.

    does anyone know what i can do my set up is almost done but i can't get past this

    Likely it is a dirty or scratched CD.

    You might try using a diferent W98 cd from a friend - just keep your original and use your PID#

    Since you have an original, it's OK to get your friend to give you a copy of his. Use YOUR product number for installing. Then treasure both CDs for a rainy day.

    Opinion/Suggest solution #4.

    Plenty of How_To's in help-net search

    Use keyword filters of clean install and make sure windows 98is in the forum field and you may be able to pare down the hits, even more, by adding the "search by member" filed. I think BillyBob has a ton of posts with instructions in here by now. :D

    98 set up

    i checked my disk and it has a scratch..now i am stuck in the set up program and can't get any where.i can't get past checking for plug and play devices.. is there anything i can do?

    Remove sound, modem, network cards, leaving only the video card in the computer, then install windows.
