    Hi All,
This is my problem, It started after installing Verizon.net dsl. most every time I try to connect by start/favorates, or start/run, Link from email, IE stops responding and I have to do a c-a-d and end task, then try again and it will work. I have looked here and other places for fac answers but have found none Verizon support was no help. I have a great connection after that, Because I was on dial up 56k I do not dsl connection upon startup I use it like I did my 56k connection as needed and disconnect when not needed. I have done a couple of IE repairs to 6.01sr1 and that has not helped. I have fooled around with zone alarm plus by giving IE and windows, Server rights but has not helped (winme an ie6 have all updates from microsoft) winpoet pppoe connection software supplied by verizon cd. I have uninstalled all programs from verizon (support, control pad and Ip insight software.)

    Thanks
    Ricky

    Hi

One question then I'll bow out :)

what happens if you dont start the firewall untill after the connect is established ? or even with it on rather than using a favorite
use the ie icon which is set to you homepage or -nohome instead

    Hi Lonny J.

Ive started with IE icon to home page, and does same thing, never thought of starting ZAplus after connection I'll try that this afternoon a couple of times and will post back.

    Thanks for reply

shutdown za then connected to internet with ie icon worked fine time after time. I quess I need to fool with permissions some more for Internet explorer, windows explorer and Distributed com services (rpcss.exe) I have given them no server rights but in access I've given them trusted and internet. From all that I've read there was no need to assign server rights if i understood correctley. in firewall/zones I have given my verizon.net trusted status.

    thanks for looking

    Hi All,
Changing ZAplus has not solved my problem, thanks to a few emails I have uninstalled dun (adaptor, tcp, nic & winpoet) then reinstalled, so far the problem seems to be solved, I have only gotten one freeze and that was because when using start run I typed .czm instead of .com

Thanks for all who posted or emailed me

    " "Distributed com services (rpcss.exe)" "

do you have search from the address-bar on ?
    IE options advanced?
even if/or not it shouldn't freeze anything.
    any other search anomalies
have you used any anti spyware programs like SpyBot or Adaware ?
All I can think to add is you need others here with same (fancy connection type) me still in the dark ages,,,
and folks with ZAPlus to ,, to help with specifics

They are just now coming out with broadband in our area,, dial up is fine until they lower the price to 15- 20 bucks.. don't think that'l happen for ten years unfortunately

    Lonny,

I have the latest adaware installed, and use it almost evey night after internet use.

I think the only thing on my machine that uses rpcss.exe is the norton live update service (which I have not configured for auto) I found I need to give trusted in the programs/server area in order to work manually. (norton av 2001)

and finally, "do not search from the address bar" is unchecked.
I never had this problem with my 56k dialup!.

I'll check out steve link you provided

    and again thanks

Sorry I made a mistake, norton webupdate uses "liveupdate engine com module not dcom.
I did download the dcombobulator and turn off dcom, will see what happens.
