I don't think your problem is with OE/IE.. What version of Windows?

It sounds like you have been hit with a very nasty virus.. Blaster

Here are two links to help. Good Luck.

    MS

    Symantec

This probably needs to be moved to the Security/Virus Forum.

Should have searched this site too..

    BBS

Also, look at the Win2000 board.

    Same problems showed up again.
Did a re-install of windows 2k. Still having that svchost.exe show up. did a blaster check and found more viruses. cleaned them up, but still can't get over these same problems. Maybe u can come up with some other help.

Your google site gave me a lot of information on the SVCHOST.EXE problems. I went to d/l sp2, then sp4 over it. Then finally to maybe get it right I d/l patch MS03-039 from MS. I thought with sp4, it would include all patches up to and including this one, but I guess not. So far, it has been 20 minutes since I got no error message. But I will have to re install a lott of programs, and see if I can save some data.
    Will keep you posted.
    Thanks
    Donabano:)

It appears all is OK at this moment.I ran Belarc: http://www.belarc.com. it showed that by downloading this patch after w2k sp4, it showed up as sp5. Maybe that is because I d/l it after, but it seerms to work. maybe the above patch was not included in the sp4 updates, who knows.
    Thank you again.

donabano--Hope I won't jinx anything by saying "Glad to hear the good news! ". ;)
P.S. I believe the MS030-39 patch is different and additional to the 2k SP4 update. Indeed maybe that makes SP4 SP5.
    See
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/default.asp
and under Additional info on the MS-030-39 page it says
    "Windows 2000:
To verify that the patch has been installed on the machine, confirm that the following registry key has been created on the machine: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows 2000\SP5\KB824146.
To verify the individual files, use the date/time and version information provided in the file manifest in Knowledge Base article 824146 are present on the system. "

Went to the registry and found listings as sp5 showing the hotfix numbers kb number showing under files 0-1-2-3-4-5-6. So it all appears to be all right. Went to the link and did some reading. It turns out that this fix came after the sp4 upgrade and was what helped correct the blaster viruses. That little Belarc program really tells you about your computer. Better than system tools.

    Thanks again
