I recently caught the Broadband bug and decided to go for BT Broadband instead of my old 56k..

In my deal I got a free Voyager 100 USB modem, however, after a short amount of time online power to the modem was being cut off, which forced the modem software to crash, forcing me to have to manually restart Windows (98se).

I contacted BT who told me because I had an AMD chipset with a VIA Tech 3038 USB, the modem would have problems getting enough power. They suggested I try installing a patch for this from viaarena.com (which I did without success) and if the problem was to remain, I should buy a USB 2 PCI card, or a mains powered USB Hub, so off I went to buy one of these... turns out no one locally stocks USB PCI cards, so I opted for the USB Hub.

When I first set it up and connected to the net I had no problems whatsoever, I was online for around 3 hours and downloaded more than 200mb, then the problems started returning :(

After searching loads of Windows help sites, I've read about lots of problems with the USB ports and certain chipsets, but Windows 2000 doesn't seem to have half these troubles, so would upgrading to Windows 2000 fix my problem with the USB?

    Or is there anyother solution?

Win98 USB is less than perfect.
Might ask your ISP if they have a non usb modem. Maybe one that hooks up via a eithernet card.
