I have Netscape 7.1 and use Norton System Works.
We both have XP and it's Norton System Works 2002.
On my computer it works fine. But on my Mom's pc we are having problems.
As of a few weeks ago she can't right click on anything in
    her computer and send.
Tonight it now won't let her send any email at all. She can still receive mail.
I have my IP coming in through Netscape.
I uninstalled Norton and could send pics (right Click, send email) and could send from Netscape.
Installed Norton and same problem again.
Spent 4 hours trying to come up with an answer and checked
every forum and message board I know of.
    Please Help. I'm totaly stumped!:(

I recently installed Norton SystemWorks 2004 and was using Netscape at the time.

On page 43 of the SystemWorks User's guide I read the following:
"Norton AntiVirus does not support email connections using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). SSL is a Netscape protocol designed to provide secure communications on the Internet. If you use an SSL connection you are not protected by Nirton AntiVirus. "
I was surprised to see this as I had used NAV with Netscape for the last six years or so.

Much as I like Netscape Communicator I decided to dump it in favour of Outlook Express which I am still coming to terms with.

Maybe others on this Forum would have suggestions to work around this problem.

    Hi Debbie,

Since turning off Norton System Works allows your Mother to access her Mail, then lets assume that NAV could be the culprit.

I'm not really familiar with Norton System Works, but I do know that there were problems with Norton AV 2000 corrupting the Netscape MSF files.

    The workaround:

In the Windows system tray right-click Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect icon and select Configure Norton AntiVirus.

In the Norton AntiVirus Options window select Exclusions from the menu on the left side. Click New in the Exclusion List section and enter *.MSF in the Item field. Click OK to save the new entry.

Click OK to close the Norton AntiVirus Options window.
    ---
Next, with Netscape and Quick Launch closed:
Delete the existing MSF files located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail\mailaccount
DO NOT delete the files WITHOUT MSF extentions. These are your mail files.

If that doesn't work then try disabling just the Email Protection.

    In Netscape Preferences
Edit | Preferences | Advanced | HTTP Networking
    Disable: Keep Alive and Pipelining
    (if enabled)

    HTH,

    Ramona :D

    Netscape7.1 + Norton

I tried it and that didn't work either.
It's the Norton for sure because without
it on she can send and recieve email.
I guess we are going to have to go with another
    anti virus.
Thanks for your time and help,:(

    Debbie,

If you disable the Email Protection only, was your Mother able to send mail? Some ISP's have their own email protection, and it is not necessary to use Norton's Email Protection component.

She might also double check her SMTP (with NAV) setting with the ISP, as the settings are not consistent with every ISP.

I am best friends with the guy who owns her ISP and he was over today and wound up throwing his hands in the air and saying "I Give ". :)
But then again he hates Netscape and has been trying to get us away from it for years.
But he really will do all he knows to get it going again.
I thought I had it when I sent an email from it, but still can't send a web page or anything from her pics.
I did disable the email protection and still can't send web pages or anything.
She's ready to go back to version 4.78, I think it was.
She got the 7.1 before me.
I fought it all the way after trying version 6 and had the email trouble myself.
I use 7.1 and the email protect and have no probs (so far):D
I talked her into letting me do some more research before we go back to the old one.
    Thanks for all the help.

    Debbie,

Check the mailto protocol in the File Types:
    Open Windows Explorer
    Click on: View
    Click on: Folder Options
    Click on: File Types
    Scroll down to: URL:MailTo Protocol
Does it show: Opens with: NETSCP

Let us know what you find.

    Hi again Ramona,
I did what you said and this is what I found:
it only said open......... but on the next line (after clicking on edit)
it has Application to preform action
and in the box is this:
    "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /mailurl:%1
now I'm not too good on knowing how to change this kinda stuff, so what do I put in the box to make it use Netscape email?
You have been so great and I do really appriciate all your help. :)

    Debbie,

I really didn't mean for you to change anything, but since you have, look at these
two screen shots. This is what the URL:mailto protocol should look like if Netscape is the default Mail program.
NOTE: these screen shots are of Windows 98SE Registered File Types. Yours may vary slightly in XP. I've not had any experience with XP, so not sure.

Could it be that you or your Mother have not made Netscape the default browser? Check in Preferences | Advanced | System
These three items should be enabled:
    HTML
    http
    https

    Also in Preferences | Navigator
There is a "Set Default Browser" tab
