How do you change the administrator name.
I tried going into control pannel and users but there was no option there apart from creating a new user.
This is a preinstalled windows if that makes any difference.
    Thanx
    Stitch:)

Assuming you are running NT, 2000 or XP, the instructions on this page should help (link to NT and 2000 instructions are at the top of the page).

    What type of log on?
Windows Family Logon [presents a user menu at startup], or Window Logon?
Do you mean Computer Name? or current logged on User?
98 does not really have an administrator.

its the box that apears just before you get to desk top that asks for your log on name and pass word. When reforatting and reinstalling windows i had to get the internet up and running and a box appeared i filled it in with the email address and password with out thinking and so now i have to give this name and pass word every time i log on. pass word is ok but i dont want address there i would rather it be something else.

OK, this one is fairly easy.

Once in Windows go to Start > Find > Files and Folders and do a search for *.pwl and delete the one you want to get rid of.

Next you have to decide if you want a password or not.

If you do, simply reboot and type whatever name you want to use for a login or user name then type in a password, Windows may ask you to verify the password depending on how things are set up.

If it's only asking for a Windows Login and you decide you don't want a password then just reboot and type in anything for the login or user name and leave the password blank, just click OK and the next time you reboot you shouldn't even see that box come up.

On the other hand if it's looking for a Microsoft Network login and you don't want to bother with a password or with the login window then you need to go to the Control Panel, double click on Network and change the Primary Network Logon to Windows Logon instead of Client for Microsoft Networks and do the same as above.

Hope I explained things so you can understand.

    Good Luck!
