Helping a friend with a new pc running W XP. It came loaded with McAfee AV; she wants to uninstall that program. Unable to do so from either Add/Remove Programs or the McAfee uninstall nodule. Can you help?

Since it's a new PC, I suggest contacting the seller and/or manufacturer for warranty support which is included in the purchase price. Beyond that, even when add & remove or McAfee's uninstall appear to work be prepared to delete hundreds of leftover entries using registry editor. Getting rid of McAfee just might be harder than removing the viruses it misses.

We decided to leave McAfee running for the length of the trial period and deal with uninstalling it later.

I hope she has a plan for some alternate protection when that time comes.
