    Win XP allows for setting one color in websites viewed, but Ican't find a way to see website colors and text as they were originally set up by the designers. I also can no longer design my own websites and see the colors I choose, because XP makes me choose a uniform color for all websites - or set it to use Windows colors. Is there a way to disable this function and see websites as they really are? I'm tired of having to use my old computer with Win ME! Thanks for any help.

    Are you using your own style sheets? Have you set the "accessibility button" options in IE's options_settings/general tab to "ignore colors, fonts etc? Check it out.

    Hi Ann thanks for your reply.

    No, I'm not using my own scripts.

    There are only 2 places that I can find where one can manipulate the colors viewed on webpages.

    Under Interenet Tools, there is Colors and there is Accessibility.

    There are 2 choices offered for "colors." One is to choose a uniform color for background and text; the other is to check the box for "use Windows colors ". Either way, these are the colors I have picked for viewing websites. There is no choice to just let the monitor show whatever color the designer of the webpage specified. I cannot even look at my own websites (created on a different computer using Win ME, not Win XP) and see the different colored pages and fonts I used.

    Under Accessibility, I tried checking and unchecking the other boxes you mentioned - the "ignore colors ", "ignore fonts ", etc That does not alter the background color, only the font colors. I still cannot see the original colors of my website. I not only made the pages different colors, I used background patterns, and none of these show up. I have to look on my old computer which uses Win ME in order to see them.

    Quite a mystery, and one which I'm wondering will ever be solved!

    Try IE toolbar
    *tools/
    *options/
    *advanced tab/
    *untick the option that says "enable visual styles on button and controls in webpages "

    ============
    I'm in time crunch right now but will add more nfo on the style sheet {template used for website views} issue and offer a reason why your website, "made using winme ", may not appear the same in xp.

    Thanks Ann, I did what you suggested but there's no change.

    I just don't "get it." My XP settings are *exactly* the same as the settings on my old computer with Windows ME.

    I can achieve the same effect of blocking the website colors on my old computer with ME by checking the "use Windows colors" box. Then I uncheck it, and I can see the "real" website colors again. These are also the colors that appear on my husband's computer, and he uses Win 2000 on his.

    No hurry since you're busy. This problem isn't going away!
